Láadan is a constructed language created by Suzette Haden Elgin, Ph.D. She is a linguist and science fiction author who constructed a language to be used in her novel, Native Tongue. The idea was to create a language which adequately conveys women's perceptions, as currently there does not seem to be any such language in common use.
Learning this language might be a useful exercise for women who are interested in gender issues, whether or not we're language geeks. Sadly, Láadan has never really caught on like a few other constructed languages, such as Klingon or Esperanto. This community is intended to disseminate information about Láadan to a larger audience, and to give interested individuals a forum in which they can learn and practice the language.
